FILIPINO SHIPOWNERS STAND IN FULL SUPPORT OF THE PHILIPPINES' CANDICACY FOR IMO COUNCIL

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly from 6-15 December will vote for the members of the executive body of the UN organization for maritime. The Philippines is in standing for re-election in the IMO Council in Category C (States with special interests in maritime transport or navigation).

The Philippines is the primary source of able and qualified maritime professionals to man the world's merchant fleet. It is the home of the global shipping industry's seafarer of choice as they comprise one-third of the world's seafarer population on board ships which carry 90% of the world's commercial trade.



An IMO member since 1964, the Philippines understands the strategic importance of maritime transport, the maritime sector and equal opportunities for all working around seas and oceans. This is underpinned by a longstanding commitment to the International Maritime Organization, which ensures safe and sustainable international shipping.

The Philippines fully supports the IMO as the primary forum for dialogue on maritime issues, by sharing expertise and by promoting pragmatic and consensus-based solutions.

The Filipino Shipowners Association is unwavering in its commitment to help promote the growt hand development of the Philippines' shipping industry, uphold and promote the general welfare of seafarers, ensure the safe navigation of ships, preserve the sustainability of the maritime environment and global maritime transport.

The Filipino Shipowners Association thus fully supports the Philippines' candidature for re-election to the IMO Council under Category C for the 2022-2023 Biennium.
